Accessibility Statement

We want everyone to be able to read this website, find what they need and contact us, whatever device, settings or assistive technology they use.

The standard we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at level AA. These guidelines describe how to make web content usable by people with a wide range of needs, including people who are blind or partially sighted, people who use a keyboard or switch instead of a mouse, and people with cognitive or learning disabilities.

What we have done

  • Text and background colours have been checked for contrast on both the light and dark sections of each page.
  • Every page has a single main heading, and headings below it follow a logical order so screen reader users can move through them.
  • All links, buttons and menus can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • A skip link lets keyboard users jump past the menu to the main content.
  • Images that carry meaning have text descriptions; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Tables fit the screen without sideways scrolling, and pages reflow at narrow widths and when text is enlarged.
  • Animation is kept light and is switched off if your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Measurements and figures are written out in text, not only shown in drawings.

Known limitations

Some parts of the site are provided by others and we cannot fully control how they behave.

The embedded enquiry form

The enquiry form is loaded from our customer management provider inside a frame. We have given the frame a descriptive title, but the labels, error messages and keyboard behaviour inside it are set by the provider. If you have any difficulty with it, you can email us or send a WhatsApp message instead, with the same information.

The coverage map

The map showing the area we cover is drawn from OpenStreetMap tiles. Maps are hard to use without sight or with a keyboard alone. Everything the map shows is also available as text: the areas we cover page lists every town and village by council area, with its distance in miles.

Diagrams and photos

Some pages include drawings of a roof in section. Their labels are short, so the same readings are always explained in the text around them.

How we test

We check pages with automated accessibility tools and by hand: moving through them with a keyboard alone, enlarging the text with browser zoom, viewing them at phone width and checking colour contrast in a real browser. We check again when templates change.

Telling us about a problem

If you find something on this website you cannot use, or you need information in a different format, please email us. Tell us the page address and what went wrong, and what device or assistive technology you were using if you are happy to share it. We will reply within five working days and, where we can fix the problem, tell you when it will be done.

If the barrier stops you contacting us, a WhatsApp message works just as well, and we can arrange your survey entirely by message or email if that suits you better. The ways to reach us are on the contact page.

About this statement
